Andy Glen - Producer, Mixer, Engineer at Furnace Rooms

Andy Glen spent the first part of his career as an actor, finding his way into London post-production houses as a voice artist, which eventually whetted his appetite for starting a second career in music production, before finally making the leap to the other side of the glass.

He set out on this new path of discovery securing a place at Abbey Road Institute where he studied audio engineering and production. It was here that he learnt from the masters just how good audio could sound, and vowed to carry the level of excellence and dedication that the studio is famous for into his own productions. Having full use of the Neve custom 75 studio, he took the opportunity to invite some of his musical heroes in for sessions, including Pete Fij (Adorable) and Terry Bickers (The House of Love) soon after the release of their second album ‘We are Millionaires’. He also worked on writing sessions with Colin McIntyre of Mull Historical Society which later became ‘Wakelines’, produced by Bernard Butler.

Another writing session with Astrid Williamson (Goya Dress, Dead Can Dance) would develop into the three-year project ‘Into the Mountain’ which he produced and engineered while she was on the One Little Independent label. He also lent his guitar work and arranging skills to the album, which had a delayed release date due to the pandemic and came out in 2021.

Always a dedicated songwriter and musician at heart, Andy played in various bands in Scotland before relocating to London and forming his own outfit, post-punk revivalists Northern Light Exposure. The band toured heavily, playing with their idols The Chameleons, and also made several EPs - the last of which, ‘Parting Shot’, was produced by Killing Joke bassist and renowned producer Youth (Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, The Verve) - before they disbanded in 2019.

After building his first studio in leafy Crystal Palace, he spent several years forming relationships with independent/unsigned artists, whom he particularly enjoys working with, and honing his mixing skills. He has worked across multiple genres of music, from singer-songwriters all the way up to full-on epic production scores.  In 2019, he also took up a post as Studio Manager and Senior Teaching Fellow at SOAS University of London, and has built a portfolio of six studios, and laid the groundwork for a new collaboration with Peter Gabriel’s label Real World Records, while also inspiring a new generation of artists and music-makers to forge a career in music production.

Moving to the Kent countryside and opening Furnace Rooms is the next step in the story. Andy’s dedication to getting the project right for the artist is what gives him his particular integrity as a producer and mixer, putting in that extra 10% to bring authenticity to any project. He’ll strive to get you the best sound you can make so that your music becomes an event rather than a rendition.
